May 16, 2019 · The 100mm Series E is a very nice lens, especially for it's low price. But the 105mm 2,5 is sharper at all apertures (especially from f/2,8 to f/4) and has the better bokeh, overall. I would not focus on the weight issue too much. The 105mm is heavier, but with such small lenses the weight difference of a few 100-grams is a non-isse.

The 105mm f/2.5 AIS is the best tool for portraits, no surprise there. Stopped down it doesn't gain a whole lot over the Nikon Series E 75-150mm f/3.5, which has a few issues. I was leaning towards the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 until I came across a YouTube review from ANGRY PHOTOGRAPHER guy who for some reason hates the Nikon 105mm. He recommends Tokina 100mm f/2.8 over this, but in my research, the Tokina has pretty bad CA despite being sharp, so not sure whether this is something to hold against it.
